Chain comparability

Cold setting! Near suicide. I Invented sods law, so I'll give that a miss. What about an old axel, slowly and alternately unscrewing the cones to push the frame outwards?

Might work but would surely mess your lug paintwork. Best way is to spread using muscle/foot power, side at a time , and keep measuring. You effectively need to overspread to gain those precious mm's. Does your Banana have cast or stamped dropouts?

Cheap Banana copies had dropouts pressed from steel.........better frames had cast dropouts with screw adjusters :D

No need to cold set or do anything else to permanently spread the stays.

I've had half a dozen 126mm frames and ridden them all with an 8 speed cassette.

That's the sort of simple, cheap, no risk answer I like. Scillysuffolk, you might just get to see the 'nana commuting between Ipswich and Felixstowe.
Thanks for all the advice, I feel like an expert myself now.
