is this a "wind up" ?????

There is an irony to this also

many polish certianly came over back in the day of solidarity when basic wages were very much on the russian style of cheapness. Now many countries we would see as economic migrants to the uk are in the same boat as we are. economic migrants coming in from china, africa, middle east etc going to much of europe and the old eastern block countries and undercutting the indeginous people there so it very much does have a knock on system

So why is the uk such a hotspot? the french being a socialist country pretty much have been bankrupted by there governments adopting the style that laby did, spending money we didn't have, then spending our childrens and childrens childrens reserves in the bank on a social structure that is and will never be long term sustainable. so we do we seem to be a target for many when other european countries appear to not have? My own impression is because we have become so politically correct most people can get away with anything and still not be thrown out.

In the west where have no where to go so with very little money in comparitive terms the average kids per household of those with wages has gone down. many of those from the poorer parts who aim for britian know once they get here it is almost impossible to get them out even more so if they have a shedload of kids

often over used ...most immigrants do the lower jobs many of our own kids just don't want to do, if you have ever employed the kids of today (most not all) they are rubbish and have no interest in earning the sheckle as long as they live with mum and dad or live off them. We as parents have largely failed to teach them the real life is crap but it pays the bills

most countries need immigration, but it needs to be controlled immigration. look at key areas where there is a desperate need, then make sure they meet british requirements for the same job..i,e doctors nurses etc

The sheer volume of immigrants are the problem for sure but the cause is successive governements too afraid of the few andwhilsy failing to protect the many. Something needs to change

Having worked with many Polish people some were good, some were just bone idle and wouldn't
entertain getting their hands dirty and when the night shift came about they would just doss about.

Many of the workers lived in a private house close by the factory and was shocked to learn that
about forty of them lived in a three bedroomed house and to see how they lived, well slept really!

SHOCKING! There was one legit tenant in the house and the rest was paying this chap £50 per week to live/sleep there, he was getting £2,000 a week in rent from these people.

One day I walked home with one of the Polish guys to this house and he showed me in one room, the
floor was a mass of old mattress's and every other room was the same, he asked if he could come to
my house to have a bath and a clean up as the bathroom in that house had two mattress's on the floor
and one in the BATH, so was unable to have a clean up.

Another Polish couple who was really nice to know was buying every Tom Tom sat nav's they could
lay their hands on and was shipping them back to Poland and selling them over there to which was
making them a little gold mine. The selling of the sat nav's faded out then they started to buy fairly
modern VW Passat's, though they had to be as cheap as possible and at the weekends him and his
wife would drive two Passats back to Poland, followed by a friend to bring them back, this happened
every weekend until he pulled up at our factory with a small CAR TRANSPORTER which could hold six
cars, after that he only went to and from Poland every fortnight.

I last saw the couple several months ago and asked them if they are still shipping out cars!
He replied buying Passat's has dried up so now i'm onto buying and selling tractors!
His car transporter had been altered to carry two friggin tractors now.

So then guys do you think the money they get really does go back into the British economy ?

I suppose I may get some abuse by some posters saying what I have written is bullshit! No it ain't!!!!

seems like they started thier own export business from scratch, good on them. we need to be promoting more exports

I don't care. If more British people had that sort of enterprise in them we wouldn't be moaning about a few foreigners milking the system.

If there are 'no jobs' (which I'd dispute all day long) then create one for yourself. Start a business. Most successful people started from nothing with just an idea and a ton of drive. Sadly most of our feckless fncks don't have either.

I remember an article in the daily mail ..this would have been 1998.. 2000. The article was about polish workers in dover. These workers are tradesman.. They would congrigate on street corners ( this is common i have seen this in Kosovo )and wait for plumbers / builders on come along and offer work. These tradesman would happliy work for the builders/ plumbers thinking they were working for a fair wage and contributing to the local economy.No... The locals plumbers and builders were taken advantage by not paying them the going rate,,thus making more money for themselves .... Again this is the side of the argument

whenever i have a job i need somone to do for me i always get 3 quotes, i needed a stud wall putting up with a window in it and some doors hanging. i asked a friend of mine whos a chippy, a local chippy out the yellow pages. and some polish guys who were recomended. the local guys turned up quoted and said we cant do the job for 3 weeks, the polish guy quoted half the price and said we can do it this weekend while the office is not in use, my friend dident bother to turn up to give a quote. guess who got the job. my friend still mumbels to himself about "bloody poles come here taking our jobs". what the poles do with money i paid them is no concern of mine or anyone elses.

Eh? The going rate is the rate workers will work for. If they are happy and the employer is happy who is anyone else to interfere about some arbitrary 'going rate'? Business is about making money.

If the Poles work better and cheaper than the Brits then who needs to change their idea of the going rate?

Tech.....:D Again another good point..just goes to show its not cut and dry.. Discussion is great

And just to update on my Spanish mucker, he worked for me today, walking for 50 minutes to get to the location as he had no cash for a £1.40 bus fare. He then got a bit of aggressive hassle from two business owners because he was promoting their competition but didn't complain. He's getting a bus tomorrow at 6am to start a £1k a month kitchen porter job in Aberdeen, with no contract, where he knows nobody and has nowhere to stay other than a hostel.

Can I see a Glaswegian benefit claimant doing any of that?

About 12 years ago, I worked for a construction-sector recruitment agency, this was before the media started properly going up the wall about immigrant workers. Applications from eastern Europeans were absolute gold dust - they'd work every single hour they legally could (and then some), they'd be ready to work shifts at a minute's notice, and they'd do the truly awful jobs that no-one else wanted to. Most of the site managers got fiercely possessive over them, and would do anything to keep them on: as long as they spoke decent English they didn't give a toss where they were from.
Also, as a possibly unrelated sidenote, our agency used to carry out random drug and alcohol spot-checks on all their staff (we had rail contracts) and every single failure was a worker from the UK or Ireland. None of the 'immigrants' ever tested positive.
