Will a new, modern chain ring work with a 6/7 speed chain?

Hi

I'm in need of new chainrings for my golden arrow crankset which is running a new 5/6/7 speed chain. If i bought a new 130 BCD ring from CRC, would it work?

I'm thinking they may now be designed for new-fangled narrow 10 speed chains.

I think it should work - i've got a 10sp campag inner chainring, a 7 speed chain and 8 speed cassette: all works in perfect harmony. I think i'm right in saying that the internal dimensions of these new fangled chains is the same as the older ones, its the external width of older 6/7/8 speed chains that causes more problems. I could be wrong though - 7 speed index was considered state of the art last time I wielded a spanner in a professional cycle mechanic style!!
