i want to fit an other writer in my pc do i set the top one to slave and the other one to master or dont it matter which way you config them or will the ide cable need to be a certain way round???

If your motherboard has two IDE channels most likely you have the hard drive on the 1st channel and your current CD on the 2nd channel....yeah?
If so you can make the new drive a slave on 2nd channel.
but are you doing lots of copying CD to CD? or is it hard drive to CD?
If you are burning mainly from hard drive to CD the do as above, if you are burning from CD to CD then put the new CD as slave to hard drive so they have seperate bus.

you can either run bot the drives on same cable or put one hdd and on dvd on cable so long as one master and one slave it will work
