WTD: Campagnolo Rear Derailleur 8 spd

Surely the rear mech has nothing to do with the indexing? It's the ergos which actually pull the cable, the mech just moves the appropriate distance accordingly....I might well be wrong though, feel free to correct me.

This is more likely to be the case with Campag. I don't think that rules applies with Shimano, that's for sure.

But it'd be nice if Campag designed their range of 8 speed indexed gear shifters to work with any Campag rear derailleur of that era.

I recall also that Shimano 'index ready' RDs had floating upper jockey wheels, which isn't something Campagnolo did initially, which again might go in my favour. Someone out there will know :p
