Single wheel security

I'm going for my first singlespeed but noticed many do not have q/r but the old axle and nut

Given many of the ones I'm looking at have quite nice/exspensive wheels, is there anyway to secure them? I did have pit lock skewers on my mtb.
 
I'd just get a small D lock if I were you. I've always been less nervous with 'track nuts' than with quick releases, but I still secure the wheels with something no matter what's holding it on. Sadly, even cheap wheels get stolen.
