Anyone done the Normandy beach landings by bike before?

I've been toying with the idea for a while and fancy it for early next summer and thought maybe anyone here has done it or have any ideas on what to look out for.I'd like to do the Poole/Cherbourg as that's around a 4/5 hour ride for me to get to Poole.

Most probably do it on the Roberts with panniers over maybe 5 or 6 days and take a small tent and have seen the campsites are dirt cheap on the net at around 5/6 euros a night!

Any ideas :D

Yes, did the Cherbourg bit this summer seeing the TdF on the tourer; and Omaha beach - Ouistreham on the retro MTB tandem with No.1 son in April 2013. Definitely do it, great fun. The coast between Cherbourg and St.Vaast is beautiful. The municipal campsites are really good and great value, particularly in Arromanches.
St.Mere Eglise (note the parachute snagged on the church tower):

There are two museums in Arromanches - one in the town which has a fab model of Mulberry harbour, plus a big one to the south which is excellent. The museum in Ste.Mere Eglise about the US Paratroop assault and Pegasus Bridge (Ouistreham) are unmissable. Take the time to visit plenty and stop when you want: 30 miles a day is plenty! Also read the Anthony Beevor book on D-Day.

If you ride through the lanes you come across small memorials to individual acts of heroism which are fascinating, such as this one to PFC Charles N. DeGlopper:
