I have a bike I need later tonight, but it's bolt that goes down the steerer tube is too short. Are there any alternative solutions? Has anyone ever tried anything? I don't have a longer bolt...

it needs to reach the wedge in the steerer tube? If so put bike upside down and with a thin rod/screwdriver and a hammer smash it out! There is always a hole in the bottom of the steerer tube of the fork...
No, the bolt wasn't long enough to reach through the stem down to the wedge. I found another stem yesterday, that fixed the problem.
