9 speed cassette, 7 speed shifter help

Hey guys,
I realized that while I have a 7 speed shifter for the rear, I have a 9 speed cassette (sram 7.0). I'm guessing the PO was lazy, and threw on anything that would work before selling it.

Should I put on a 7 speed cassette with a spacer? Or find a 9 speed shifter that will fit the original stx brake lever?

You need to match the shifter to the cassette, so either a new shifter, or a new cassette and a spacer.

However, if you have an integrated brake lever and shifter, I'm not sure what options there are, you may need to replace the brake lever as well, but I'm not certain.
