Hi all,

I've just completed a more period correct rebuild of my Roberts mountain bike so I thought I'd post a few pics here. Strictly speaking it's from 1998 but many of the parts are a few years earlier and it's a pretty traditional frameset.

Anyway a number of components were sourced from this site so many thanks to those that sold me things.

Here are the new specs;

Frame: 1998 Roberts Genesis resprayed by Bob Jackson Cycles with Decals from H Llyod
Fork: Kona Project II 1 1/8" Powder coated in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey

Headset: Silver M:Part Elite 1 1/8 Inch Aheadset
Stem: Ringle Zooka
Handlebar: Silver Control Tech
Grips: ODI Attack
Barends: None

Brakes: Shimano STX RC
Brake Levers: Shimano STX RC

Shifters: Shimano STX RC
Front Derailleur: Shimano STX RC
Rear Derailleur: Shimano STX RC
Cassette: Shimano Acera CS-HG41 8-Speed
Chain: Shimano Altus HG40 6-7-8 Speed
Cranks and chainrings: Shimano STX RC
Bottom Bracket: Shimano BB-UN300
Pedals: Onza Double Cage

Hub Skewers: Shimano
Front hub. M737. Laced to Mavic 231.
Rear hub M738. Laced to Mavic 231.
Tyres: Panaracer Smoke & Dart

Saddle: Selle Italia Flite Titanium
Seatpost: USE
Seatpost Binder: A bolt
Bottle Cage: None

The only real 'bling' are the spoke nipples which are anodised purple. So I'm wondering if I should get any other purple bits (bolts, skewers etc.) or should I just keep things white and silver? Should I change anything else?

Cheers,

Jim

Ooh, yes, no, er, dunno!

Seems to deserve better, maybe Black LX?

I've had <looks at label> Peach & Orange Blossom Gin - what was I thinking??? So ignore me

<whispers> Black LX

Ha! Well to be honest I only went with STX because I got a complete Groupset quite cheaply. I think it's underrated but maybe the frame deserves better :-)

The brakes always looked a bit naff though, mechs, shifters and chainset, fine, v-brakes with their cantilever style fixings - naff

<whispers uncomfortably close> naff...
