Post subject:  Late 90's Hand built Argos Racer 59cm *SOLD* £300

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to this forum and to online selling so hopefully this post works okay.

The bike was made for me by Argos frame builders in Bristol (not the catalogue store :D )
It's Reynolds 531
Durace gears, cranks (SPDs) and braking
3T bar and stem
Mavic CXP30 wheels
Rolls Due saddle

****edit 59cm (originally measured wrongly by LBS)

It served me well but hasn't been ridden in a long while. It's in need of a bit of TLC but currently with my LBS for a service to ensure everything's okay.

Speaking to Argos they thought £600 was a fair price but I will consider offers.

LOOKING FOR £300

Collection, as I say I'm in Bristol.

I fear I may have messed this up. I did try and upload photos but I'm not seeing them.
Any advice as to how to edit/sort it would be appreciated :)

So hopefully they've added now. Apologies for the scruffy nature of this post,

best,
Stuart

It's worth posting up some frame dimensions too for any interested potential buyers to get an idea of frame size & fit.

Aaah good point, thanks. I don't have exact dimensions and it's having the mini service but it was hand built for me I'm 6'1"ish so it's in the 58/59cm bracket

If it was custom built by Argos wouldn't they have the frame details on some sort of customer database with a record of the frame number?

Thanks. I'll give them a call and see if they do have anything. I've long since lost any paperwork :)

Talked to Argos. The ydo have paper records going back a long way but it'll take time to dig them out apparently. I'm away for a week from tomorrow but will chase this up when back and/or measure the bike when it's back from the LBS.
Presume bike height and top tube length would be ideal? The bars are wider than average because of my frame.

Thanks for all the advice.

Sorry if you've PM'ed me but I can't work out how to reply. It may be because I'm too new a member.

Hi fullfathom5,

I’m in St. Anne’s which is South Central Bristol. WfH so available most of the time most days. I can’t seem to use PMs. Apparently the account is too new?

Possibly interested, just a few questions:
1. Are the wheels tubular or clincher?
2. What is the crank length (should be stamped on the inside face of the crank, 170mm etc.)
3. What is the length of the toptube measured from the centreline of the seattube to the centreline of the headtube (Measured as dimension 'C' here: http://www.bikesdirect.com/sizing.htm).
Thanks

Hi, I'll take it - you have PM, and if you can't see it, send me an email to kekec1965@aol.com

Cheers

I’ve just picked this back up from the LBS. They were supposed to be giving it a service and trying to sell on as well but haven’t touched anything (so still is as original pictures). Although they do say it’s mechanically sound.

To answer questions above

1. Clinchers
2. Cranks 170
3. Top tube 56.5cm

ALSO please note despite LBS saying it was sized 56cm I’ve just measured and it’s more like 59cm (maybe they were taking the top tube sizing?). I’ve altered the post title to reflect this.

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay in replying and the detail updates. I've just agreed a sale of this now so apologies if I wasn't abe to contact you direct.
The situation with the PM's is confusing and seemingly hampering an otherwise excellent forum (though it may just be me doing something wrong).
Thanks for all the help, advice and interest.

Stuart
