Twelve riders: 2 x Roberts, 1 x Nigel Dean, 1 x Dawes, 1 x Muddy Fox and a whole bundle of Oranges, both ancient and modern.

A last minute addition to the clan MacKinnon was my daughter on her recently built C16R.

A couple of mechanicals, and a couple of punctures, plus a little drop of rain did nothing to detract from an excellent route, devised and ably shepherded by theredchilli. Thank you James.

Here are a few photos.

Just to prove I was there, here's my Roberts.

Girly pose for the camera.

Bit of a repair going on.

Zaphod Bebblebrox joined us too.

Ahh, spotted the camera then!

Surely you've been photoshopping - in the second and third pics Dave looks identical and he's smiling! :? Did you chop him in from pics of a different ride? Honest now...

In the midst of all this jollity I don't think I've thanked James and the other organisers and of course Neil for the idea - cheers!

And to Gav for the monster drive, enduring my music without much complaint 8)

Great day out in the forest, have to admit I really enjoyed the evil roots and sliding all over the place, sort of suits the retro vibe more than thrashing around at crazy speeds I think. Occasionally anyway!

Hope to catch up with folks again soon :D

Now where's that feedback link?

Great ride - thanks to James for leading it and to everyone who travelled from far and wide to attend 8)

BOTR was decided over a pint in the pub at the end - the immaculate Dawes of Easyrider was the bike of choice 8), could easily have been Dave's Roberts but we had forgotten what that looked like by the end!!

That is not a smile on Dave's face - it is pure fear - he is obviously on a steep section with the wrong tyres on a bike that its too small and with the handle bars too high, oh yeah and a loose headset as well ;)

Another great ride at the FOD, really starting to love the place. I had thought the wet roots would have made for a miserable day, but they merely served to keep you on your toes. The ride was calmly and confidently led by James Red Chilli who does seem to know the forest like the back of his hand, enjoyed the little verbal run downs of each section and what to expect. I’ll even forgive him for the constant lies about how far we were actually away from the pub.

Trails were superb even the muddy sections, and there were more than enough mildly perilous technical sections to give a sense of satisfaction.

Another highlight was the small herd of deer that cantered past us some 20 metres away.

Great banter was had also, even if most of it was at poor Dave’s expense

Lowlight had to be the frequent disconcerting wiffs of garlic, cumin and cardamom when ever I rode behind a certain someone. Took me a while to work out what it was.

I really think FOD should make its way back onto the National Calendar, or it is used for a Retrobike Big Weekend with overnight camping type ride.

Thanks to all who organised and led and rode.

Some pics, sorry about the quality

Sad news, part of the open Singletrack on the British Steel ride has now been destroyed by the FC and their machinery. It's the section where the trees were felled and in many of the pictures. great shame as I really liked that section, oh well time to get searching for a replacement.

I raised the idea and the venue, James arranged the date and route, but as James is no longer the regional co ordinator you need to ask / propose this one to Dave.
