Back in ye olde times, I had one of those SR customs and managed to fit cinelli bars in there. I opened the jaws a bit with a crow bar, slid the bars in, tightened the bolt and had it like that for quite some time
Granted, it's a bodge, and not for a show bike, but for a commuter/pubber, it might work for you
