I can stay loyal to the firm that made it and get the frame I'm refurbishing in one of their stock colours..... or I could throw caution to the wind, say "sod it!", and go for a more vibrant contemporary colour. Just that it's a classic frame...... arrrggghhhh!!

Do what you want. It can always be repainted again.

It would help to know/see the frame you're talking about though...

Agree with above, do what makes you happy.

I bought a black Orange frame in tidy original condition years back and got it powder coated grey to replicate a bike I wanted bitd. Then sold it on only for the buyer to strip the mint paint job and get it done in classic orange/white fade.
 
It perhaps depends how you are going to finish it? Fluorescent HS33s perhaps more staid but if not go wild.
