Cheapest possible options for both please.

Can get a fork for £20 on eblag but though I'd try here first.
Steerer needs to be at least 190mm long.

good luck with your hunt for a shock for the 856 - they are getting harder to come by. Depending on the depth of your pocket you can always go for one of these: http://www.risseracing.com/proflex.shtml

You could also try adapting a standard shock to fit as some have done. Have a look here for ideas: http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?board=1.0

You know that rapid descent do coil shocks for the 856 for £37 right?
that was gonna be one of my options, but they're out of stock at the mo.

yes - what they do though is just the coil upgrade - not the shock itself. You'll still need to get a oil damped (ODS) shock in the first place.

There is something on the bike. Has mcu's on the outside, have no idea what's underneath!

Any way of telling or do I have to take it apart?

There you go - you have the shock :D Undo the bolt at the bottom of the shock (you'll have to remove the rear wheel) and the shock should come out (may need to be 'assisted' with a bit of brute force). The elastomers will then slide off revealing a shaft which goes in and out of the shock body as in any normal shock. The RDS coil upgrade replaces the hardened elastomers. This would be by far your easiest and cheapest option. I have the upgrade for my Vectors and it is very good.

The ODS is easily serviced too in terms of changing the oil (instructions on the RDS website), though if it's leaking it may be harder to get the appropriate parts.

Let me know if you need any other advice - I've done quite a few of these! Feel free to contact us over here too: http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?board=1.0

Ahh brilliant. Thanks man. I read through pretty much all of the RDS website and was sure I needed just a spring. Just wasn't sure if there was an elastomer shock unit that didn't have the ods bit inside aswell. Elastomers are a bit of a grey area for me!

All I need now is a fork! :D

what's wrong with the AMP forks? I've seen them on a Proflex before - they're very nice!

I have some elastomer Vectors if you are interested - these are the forks designed for that bike.

PM'd you re forks.

The Proflex is for a friend. He's not into his bikes as much as I am (hence the skinny semi slicks and sofa seat) so I'm keeping the forks for myself and will try to put something else half decent on for him.
