Cleaning up chrome/re chrome?????

I am looking for some advice on getting some pretty corroded bmx cranks and seat posts back to new.

I got an online price of £100 for the cank alone!!!!! Too much for my budget.

I am working through some bmx and road bikes to restore and want some advice on getting chromed parts back to new and having other bits re-annodised etc...

Autosol works a treat but some parts are needing a little more elbow grease.

I have visions of showcasing my bmx and road bikes but need to start somewhere.

And advice?

I am based in Scotland.

Steel wool.
Rub as hard as you like, it won't damage the plating.

Then a good coat or two of car body wax, (preferably resin based rather than the chalky cheap toot) to prevent the pitting from getting worse.

please don't use coke and tin foil - leave it to the drug takers

Peek and elbow grease - then a goddards silver cloth

the less lines from scratching you leave the better the chrome will look

think we will have to start a Polishing thread of do's and don't
