Bought this Kalkhoff a few months back but having a hard time finding any kind of reference for what it is.

It had been built up as a commuter bike with cheap modern (and, it turns out, mostly very bad condition) parts, I've slowly converted it back to downtube shifters/some raleigh handlebars I had in the shed, plus 1x10 drive train and new wheels etc.

The only things that are potentially original (and which I've left on) are the weinmann brakes and the headset.

The seller reckoned it was 1950s, but that seems much too old for the plastic decals. So I'm thinking maybe '70s given it has the old style fork lamp braze-on, or potentially earlier if it at some point had new decals put on.

I've been unable to locate a frame number or anything useful like that.

This Tristar on Ebay is similar-ish, but with different decals): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kalkhoff-Tri ... .l4275.c10

For another comparison here's a Trident from the late '70s/ early '80s - that seems the most likely: https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/kalkh ... el.191544/

I think they are possibly a german brand. Halfords sold some of them in the late 70s/ early 80s.
You sometimes still see them, usually seem to be pre-school childrens bikes and specialist disability bikes
