Hi,

So my frame is mostly in good original condition however it turns 40 next year and does have a fair few paint chips. Most of these chips reveal some kind of silvery undercoat which is fine and I'm happy to leave them as they are. I'm pretty hopeless when it comes to anything paint related and know that any attempt to improve those small areas will have the opposite result.

However, there are two areas which appear to have been chipped right down to the bare steel and these are a dark brown colour which is, I imagine, surface rust.

Inside the frame tubes is rust free as far as I can see which is great and I am quite sure that these areas are nothing to massively worry about. However, in the name of proactivity I'd like to ask for some advice on how best to treat and further protect the rusted spots.

At the moment I probably can't spend terribly much on specialty products so cheap solutions are particularly welcome. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Thanks, cleaned it up and touched some rustoleum over a couple of spots on the front and rear dropouts. I think I'll just periodically clean the small spot on the top tube and keep an eye on it as I reckon the solution is probably worse than the problem at the moment.
