Bates Canti flex question

Were all Bates Canti flex bicycles 5,3 or fixed wheel . Is it possible to fit a front changer given the canti flex tubing used .
If so what make of changer was used . I cannot find any pictures of a 10 speed one .{ This may answer my question}

Reason for asking I am going to start fettling/ completing my Bates machine which is 5 speed as it stands .

Any one any ideas please .

Is this because of the larger diameter tube? Can you measure the diameter with a caliper round where a band-on derailleur would go? I'm just musing, but maybe the bulge isn't too big down near that end of the tube. A rod changer would look cool.

I tried an old Simplex juy 56 front changer . Big risk of it slipping and wrecking paint work . I have parted with all my rod shifters :facepalm: I will have to ask a few mates if they have one i could try .
As said changing tube size makes things awkward .
