Retro Newbie
Hi I have just aquired a GT Rage with 6061 T6 Tubing, with full 105sc groupset. I just wondered if any one knew the age or anything about them and how disirable they are these days. I was told it was one of the first road bikes GT made.
Many thanks
Tim

Welcome to RetroBike Tim unfortunately i know nothing about your bike other than it having a quality groupset ..

Heres a link to the gt 1997 catalogue in the forums archive which shows the Rage model but with the 7000 series alu tubing http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 7.pdf.html

It's also in the 1998 catalogue but the only thing i can understand is it's a 105 groupset and carbon forks so you'll have to compare these to yours unless some one else on the forum comes up with more info so heres the 98 link ; http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 2.pdf.html

Re:

6061 is what GT used for their top spec MTB's, like the Zaskar, so that gives a clue to where it was in the range.

I don't know much about GT road bikes, but take a look ion the inside of the non driveside dropout. You may find a frame number, and if it follows the same code as the Zaskars (which were all hand welded) then the first two digits will be the year and the next two month of manufacture (or it could be the other way around.... it's been a while).

Do some digging on GT road frames, as they built a fleet of frames for an American pro team who used them in Europe including (I think) the TdF. This is all ancient stuff I am dragging from deep inside my often faulty memory, but I remember searching for one of those frames.... and not finding one.

Enjoy your GT.

Re:

Thanks guys.
It looks to me like its a 1994 as it seems they only made the tubing from 6061 T6 for that year, though the wheels are the same as the slightly newer bikes so maybe it was built later.
Its far lighter than my modern Fuji I have and well worth the £100 I paid for it

Well it wouldn't surprise me if it was a 1994 model that the previous owner had updated the parts on at some point any way i'm just glad that your happy with it and i'd love to see a pic or 2 ..
