Poor quality work?

Has anyone had a frame returned after respray and been unhappy with the work?
If so , did you kick up and get the work re-done or seek a refund?

Even with a refund of the paint costs, would you pursue reimbursement for delivery charges and decals which would have to be re purchased?
Any experiences and advice appreciated.

I did.

When I had my Cinelli resprayed the paint went on so thick that it literally filled in the lug work on the bottom bracket shell as well as the brake bridge. I sent it back and they repainted the rear half, avoiding the need for new decals.

One of the mtb guys had a frame re sprayed and when it came back the paint was chipped and the frame damaged yet the bubble wrap and packaging were in perfect condition. He kicked up a stink and they took the frame back to redo the job.

I have not heard anything since, I think they still have it. Mind you, it took them a YEAR to send it back to him in the first place.

I still would like to know the reason for the question.

As i am still thinking of my Rossin paint, I have taken a lot of pointers in relation to who can do the best work. Once i had decided that a firm did great work, and them someone said their paint goes on 'too think'! Back to square one. But if i thought it was too thick, is that a reason to have it re-done?

I am avoiding using the name of the firm as there may be an issue by critising someone without evidence.

I sent a frame professionally packed, it came back unprotected with myriad paint flaws; the firm insists it was fully stripped but there are areas with depressions that are exactly where chipped paint was on the original. Areas are rough to touch and 'matt' rather than gloss.
The lacquer was supposed to be italian Pearl, but looks like plain clear lacquered enamel. ( I've a couple of pearl frames and this looks nothing like the same ) I guess I need a 3rd party inspection to verify these issues...certain decals were not correctly placed ( photos were supplied ) and the set was specially made up.

Communication has been polite but there seems to be a big difference in how their process was described and the actual visible evidence in the final product. Hopefully we can reach an amicable resolution.

Ooooooo that does not sound good at all. The lack of packing on return postage is not good at all - they are not willing to protect your investment after they have been paid. That would annoy me an awful lot.

I hope 'polite communication' results in a fair solution - please update when you get sorted.

Richard

p.s. if you wish, a PM with more details would help me with my decision

Chris Marshall at Unit 1 Corn mill garage Ingrow bridge keighley. Tel 01535 691073.He is a frame builder and trained at Pennine. Now seems to specialise in respraying classic bikes or he was doing last time he did one for me. Superb job. Lug lining panels the works and a reasonable price. If you visit him he usually has a few samples about so you can see what you are getting. You wont find any dodgy paint there. He has done a few for me now and always excellent

Will do Rich

I wasn't told about the decal placement until AFTER I had paid also :( :( :(
I'll upload some pics if I really get pi**ed
I'd just like my money back, a new set of decals and send it to someone with a better rep...it's not like this is an unknown builder either.

Thanks so much, I used Andy Perks in the past and his work is world class, but he has hung up his paint gun for a while at least...so I used someone else ( recommended here, sadly )
