I've just posted a wanted ad for a 7 speed indexed bar end shifter but looking at some piccies of bar ends I noticed that what they appear to consist of is an indexed shifting lever assembly and a bar end fitting that effectively provides a lever boss and cable stop on the bar end. The photo I saw even showed the typical Shimano flat boss cover so I wondered if it was possible to take a standard downtube 7 speed shifter and fit it to a bar end fitting. Does this make sense? Anyone tried it? All advice gratefully received!
