the original moby posts were subject to a recall, nick will probably know the reason why

Yes bit of a funny one this, and understandably not publicised. The Easton taperwall mandrel at Easton Metal is the same mandrel that gets set up to do basball bats and all that kind of stuff. What I mean by that is teh configuration of the kit is torn down and rebuilt for different batches of draw. .. One day out of the blue, the moby setup was configured,a load of tubes drawn (same grade starter tube), and then on the shelf, the posts were cracking. No load, just siting there, they were cracking. It never affected Mby posts in service, just for some reason, the configured setup was inducing so much stress, the tubes were craking, and just for some reason, no mater what was jiggled, the problem just couldn't be sorted.
In the end, the design was shifted marginally to kill the problem, slightly thicker walls, slughtly different taperwall, an dthe problem went away. This was then what was called the deuce, the 'second' post. It was slighly heavier, and it was more exensive, and this is why fairly soon after all colour variants were introduced with a silver head. It cut cost a little, and ensured anodising consistency. Its very hard to match the shades as it is, but it just eliminated that trouble.

The moby and moby deuce are genuine Ringlé components. The moby evolution, is post-takeover generic far eastern pap with a nice looking clamp on top. . .
hope this helps ;)
