Ive a pair siitting built to XT m739 hubs. The hubs are fine but the rims are either really really really worn, or only slightly.

Thing im asking is for ID on, is there a step on the rim, along the inside edge of the braking surface ?
I seem to have a memory of rims having a step that would allow the pad to be set up and not push itself into the spokes. Or this is a false memory, and im trying to justify keeping them built
