Evening, so, I've got myself a longer steerer for my Judy's, seemed like a simple unbolt and swap job but nooooooo....
When I undo the steerer on my working set, this happens....

How do I even them out to get the other stancion bolted in??

The one on the left is the coil leg. Do I need to separate it from the lower to sort this out???

Whilst I'm here I'll also ask how tight one should be tightening the bolts....

Re: 96 Judy XC steerer swap problem

Turn it upside down and hammer in the middle of the crown with a non marking rubber mallet.

Twist the stanchion as oyu do it. Chances are its just a bit sticky

Re:

Its easier if you take out the top caps 1st. Also you may need to open the clamp a little with a screwdriver, very gently so as not to mark the alloy.

Re:

All sorted, I was being a little to precautious, I just gave it a tap with the soft mallet and all was well :)

if it's been a while you should probably pull those lowers and grease up the bushings, real easy to do
