I've got a Shimano FH-M570, 7 speed hub for sale and i've been asked if an 8 speed cassette will fit onto it? I don't know so have looked online to see, but can't find a definitive answer

Can anyone help please?

Re:

Thank you very much for that, I hadn't got a clue it was a 9 speed hub

How can I tell if this has a 7-speed freehub body?

Here's the hub in question:

Re:

Remove the cassette and see if there is a spacer behind it.the hub in question should be a 9 speed one though anyway unless its been altered

It looks to me as though your hub's been modified, with a 7-speed body in place of the original 9-speed one.

The locknut on the drive side is much further from the end of the freehub body than you would normally expect. The rubber seal on the other end is also wrong - perhaps taken from a front hub.

Here's how it should look:

As above, it looks like its been modified by someone by removing the original 8/9spd freehub body and replacing it with a 7.
