Does anyone have personal experience of a bicycle accident claim company?

Thanks for your reply, I actually dealt with the claim myself saving the 25% fee, there are government guidelines for compensation and with some haggling I got near to the maximum for my injury plus my bike repaired and clothing so a good result.

Peugeot A08 quick makeover with a trip down memory lane

Back in the long hot summer of 1976 I had saved up enough to trade in my 5 speed Viscount Sebring for a bright yellow Peugeot which I think came from Partridge Cycles in Exeter, it ticked all the boxes including 10 gears, drop bars and centre pull brakes, everything a teenager could ask for. I...

Did Raleigh UK ever make a 650B road bike?

Centre pull and I am using drum brakes the problem is tyre clearance.

Did Raleigh UK ever make a 650B road bike?

I am curious as the only model I have seen is the North American market Portage that I believe was made in Japan, I would quite like one and even bought an old Royal with thoughts of converting it but there is not the tyre clearance for something a little wider.

    Pace forks

I had a pair of the RC40s from that limited edition which I replaced with a standard pair as they had a longer stem I was after and they seemed exactly the same except for the colour scheme.

rBoTM RBotM March 2024 - Open Month - Enter Now!!! Now!! Now!!

Here is my updated and recently resprayed 1997 Raleigh Royal, a vintage tourer that I think can hold it's own with most modern bikes of a similar type. And the frame freshly back from repair and respray at Argos cycles. The story about it is here...

    Today's Ride

A very nice day in East Devon/West Dorset yesterday so I took a spin up to Lamberts Castle to take in the view, I rode my Roberts which after several months of running around on a 3 speed was a revelation, the right gear for every occasion and disc brakes, although I do think there is a mark on...

Lugged frame builders in the UK

As a follow up to my frame saga here it is after the driver's insurance company agreed to pay for repairs it went to Argo who did a great job, while they were at it I paid the extra for horizontal dropouts dispensing with the need for a chain tensioner and a third bottle carrier under the downtube.

The grim reaper came to visit me, Roberts content, be strong...

How about comparing the cost of a repair including respray with having someone such as Winston build you a new replica of the frame with any updates you might want, swap the parts over and hang the original on your garage or shed wall to admire.

    1976 Schwinn Suburban

That is another bike added to the bucket list, although if I owned one it might end up with an SA 3 speed fitted.

Wanted Middleburn RS7 lefthand crank 170mm silver

I have posted this in the retro MTB section but have realised they are post 2000 so repeated it here, I am not bothered about the style of script or if it is a bit knocked about as long as it is not too bad, several 175 and 165s have come up on Ebay but not a 170 in two years of looking.

    Raleigh Eclat build

The Royal is a great bike but if you want to go single speed make sure it is the earlier 531 frame with horizontal dropouts not the later 708 with vertical which would require a chain tensioner, the Royal probably has more tyre clearance.

    Raleigh Eclat build

Stems on this type of bike are nearly all 22.2mm and probably made by Sakae Ringyo sometimes marked SR, they made a wide range of stems of various heights and reach and are available second hand on your favourite market site for a reasonable price, the Record Sprint came with silver, black or...

    Raleigh Eclat build

You should be able to move it backwards and forwards in the rear dropouts within reason and get the correct chain tension on at least a couple of sprockets but yes to go any further would require that and when you decide the gearing that suits you best you can leave it on that one.

    Raleigh Eclat build

Hi and welcome to the forum, The easiest way to convert to single speed would be to choose which front chainring you wish to retain and remove the other, you might need to get shorter chainring bolts for a single ring. Remove the front and rear derailleurs, retain all of the rear sprockets and...

Wanted Middelburn RS7 left hand crank 170mm silver

Please spare my Thorn Sterling from the indignity of mis-matched cranks, I am not bothered about the style of script or if it is a bit knocked about as long as it is not too bad, several 175 and 165s have come up on Ebay but not a 170 in two years of looking.

    Today's Ride

After a few cold dry days and even colder nights the trails around my local woods have now dried up enough that I feel like riding around them, the perfect opportunity to find out if fitting a new shifter has fixed the problem of slipping in gear with the spares or repair Alfine 11 speed hub I...

    1972 Peugeot PX50

Very nice, thanks for posting the update, you have also just added another bike to my wishlist as I already had an eye out for an A-08 the bike of my youth but have switched in an instant to wanting one of these as I have never owned a bike with 650B wheels and this looks very useable.
