Conti frame with interesting crimped tubes. Was this a custom thing some brands did with SLX?
I really like it.. too small for me thankfully! 🤣

I believe the real reason for crimping is it make the frame stiffer however it would IMHO make it stiffer in both the vertical (side to side) and the horizontal (up and down) while the former is a very desirable attribute in a frame the latter is not.

I can't imagine aesthetics playing a huge role in it as it would not be noticeable from the viewing stands like the curved stays on a Hetchins, or the triple triangle of Thanet, although a Thanet type triple triangle frame also have structural benefits.

Fortunately, not all 'crimped' frames carry the Colnago name and price tag.
