STX RC CHAINSET

Retro Newbie
Hello,

I am new to this forum please excuse any errors.

I have a STX RC chainset which I need to replace the middle and outer chain rings, the number of the complete item is FC-MC33, please see attached images.
The rings are 32 and 42 teeth respectively.
I have searched all over for these but to no avail, I believe these are now obsolete, does anybody have any for sale or know of compatible replacements?
Could I fit a different square taper chainset?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

As long as you get chainrings with the right pcd, looking at the pic it believe it will be 5 x 110 but could be 5 x 130 they will fit, some manufacturers have slightly different lugs, (where fixing bolts are) so may need a minor modification to fit a shimano spider

They're 94 BCD. New Shimano chainrings are hard to find in this size. You could buy another chainset off eBay and take the rings off it.

Is this the one where the smallest chainring bolts directly to the middle one? In which case you'll have to get another MC33 or replace the whole chainset.

Looks pretty standard 94bcd ring size to me. Not plentiful as that size is old school and nothing decent is made in that size. Try spa cycles as they do a lot of rings and sizes and their own brand is pretty reasonably priced for decent rings. Middleburn another option.

New rings might set you back more than a decent used crankset or rings.

Some STX were unusual, an entire replacement crank would be easier than finding the correct rings. There is a different BCD for the smaller rings. 5dncp6s3ymc51.jpg
95mm for outer ring, 58mm for inners

Thanks for your replies.

The outer ring is bolted to the middle ring, the middle ring and the small ring then bolt onto the crank arm.

I was hoping somebody may have some tucked away!!!

STX used 95mm pcd, not 94mm. It's a bit of Shimano compatibility buggeration.

IIRC STX RC uses the normal 94mm, BUT a different buggeration in that the middle ring has a carrier for the inner and mounts via it.

You could salvage the outer and buy normal 94mm arms. M563 would be the obvious choice, typically £15-20 or so.

This is how it starts. Can't find chainrings but there is a really nice XT crankset on ebay. Next thing you know your dropping hundreds on individual components for a groupset. Then some other part doesn't look quite as nice but there's this nice anodized part to replace it. We all know where this is going.

Hi mate, I don’t suppose you’re in Newcastle are you?

Had a bloke in our workshop with the same issue yesterday.

If it is you, I have a spare STX RC MC40 chainset here with plenty of life in it (42/32/22) , yours for £20.

Different model to the one you have but would do the job and keep it period correct! C8B1641A-361E-42D0-AB65-CAD29D74A48C.jpeg
