It’s interesting watching the sale of antique rubber. I had a pile which I sold or Karma’d depending on condition. This is my hierarchy of survivors. But first, the gallery of remembrance.

I remember:

OnZa Porcupines 1 and 2, White Black and Tan wall (used them a lot in kevlar 2.10 - nice)
Tioga Farmer Johns and Nephews and Cousins
Tioga Psychos
Specialized Ground Controls (excellent - a favourite)
Ritchey Z max and the Many Max’s
IRC Racing Claws
Michelin WildGrippers
WTB Velociraptors (loved them)

And in order of longevity and useability

IRC Racing Claws
Porcupine 2s - 2.10s Kevlar in black
WTBs
Ritcheys - but different models vary wildly in how much they crack and go to paper
And then the rest....

And I have NOT seen a Ground Control for ages and ages......

Did love a Specialized Ground Control.

Psycho 2 was a regular buy for me as they were pretty affordable.

Smoke/dart combo. IRC Mythos too.

Specialized did an umma gumma which i think was too high end for me and may have been grey?

Love velociraptors, and have a little stash of them in the garage!

The Spesh "Umma Gumma" range were cool, grey sticky rubber but only lasted me a season..! Any riding on the road destroyed them.

Farmer John's were the first "decent" tyre I used, but tbh they tried to kill me more than once.

I used the black wall Smokes, I remember at the time the Black Wall tyres were "cooler" than the Amberwall ones , apparently. Though it seems these days everyone likes the Amberwall look on their retro mtbs
