M951 XTR DH Spider BCD question

Thats brilliant! Usually when I ask a question I have to wait for someone to answer it. How did you do that?
Yes they are 112 bcd and only the DH rings fit but the spider is held on with a lockring and you can get a Middleburn spider for £40 which then allows you to fit 4 arm 104bcd rings. Have done on mine!

Not sure how much they weigh. Not really bothered by that. I put them on and ride the bike!
Sorry that's not much help.

Though the 112 BCD was not specific to the DH version, the M951/952 series used it for their top ring for the 4 arm versions, though only the middle could be changed ;)

Why they used a removable ring for the DH version I have no idea, moving away from the mono outer ring-spider of the triple version. Just seems a bit odd.

Pretty pictures also here

Middleburn spider weighs 65g according to CRC page.

Excellent info there.....whats that special tool (11).
Thought I would just need a lock-ring tool to remove the spider. :?

TL-UN96, I have no idea as never had one of these spider chainsets  and the only tools I have for bottom brackets are the one that came with my BB-UN90 and my recent HTII thing. (and a hammer and screwdriver for the old cup n cone type )

Though looks like this thing on CRC http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... odelID=995 but someone will actually know ;)

EDIT staring at them , is it just there to hold the main tool in so it doesn't slip, e.g. you screw the crank bolts in to it ?

Same tool as used for middleburns apparently
