Deore xt M732 thumb shifters question

I have a question to anyone who has a pair of m732 thumb shifters or similar. My right shifter has a bit of play in the shift lever when I wiggle it up and down. Is that normal?

Any help is appreciated

They do have a bit of play in, but they get worse with wear. They can be tightened a bit with the nut under the top cover....but don't go mad as it also alters the friction strength.

As Mr Tooty said, even new ones have a bit of play. I´d say 1,5-2mm at the tip of the lever is normal.

But it could also be that parts are missing or it´s not assembled correctly. I remember a thin copper washer between the fixed and the moving part often to be missing.

Sounds like the average rebuild of anything..." surely all these bits can't be needed"!

No, shimano produce those extra parts just so you can throw them out when your next in there having a rummage 😂🤣

Thanks for all the replies, I think it's nothing wrong with it, the play disappears when its in friction mode.
