2 things i don't get. Why sharpen up the edges of the gear paddles? and what is the plate on the seat tube, above the front mech, doing? I get that the lower plate is protecting the underslung brake from gloop but not the other plate.

Maybe a mud cleaner for the rear tyre as the back end is very tight? Also would keep the crud off the front mech?

Are there many rims available in 29 inch size, for rim brakes? I would imagine they are very rare, given most 29ers have disc brakes?

Rims used are Pacenti sl23, which are 700c road rims. Still plenty of 700c rim brake rims around for touring and road.
