2005 Marin Mount Vision

Retro Newbie
Hello again. Long story short in 2010 after about 10 years of not riding I bought a bike from this very forum, a Kona AA. Was a lovely retro ride that sadly was stolen just 3 days after purchase (https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/large-20-complete-bike-up-to-£150.109924/).

This made me so sad I actually said I'd never ride anything again and I didn't.
Fast forward to today and I have 2 kids, 8 and 5 and they can both ride. Wife bought a bike and now of course I'm being peer pressured to at least go for a spin around the park.

So definitely not wanting to spend a bunch of cash, I looked a little on Facebook marketplace and saw this, a 2005 Marin Mount Vision for just 100 quid.
Not is amazing shape but a long way from battered and bruised I figured a decent deal for just 100 notes and maybe something I can do up a bit as a bit of restoration project (I enjoy a nice project: https://geekbeak.com/)

So hello again after 12 years. I'm sure I'll be calling on your advice in due course:)

Looks like someone was replacing the bits one at a time as they're wearing, but did so with nice components so even tho things ain't matched by name they should give you plenty long trouble-free use 👍

Thats kind of the vibe I got too.

I wasn't able to find out what was on it before I picked it up as was a lady selling it and it was her bro in laws from years ago and sat in a shed.

I'll give everything a good clean up and service best I can and then work from there.
Not a huge amount of info online for that specific model and age but the photos I did find do show that almost everything has been changed, forks, drive chain etc.

No idea about brakes but they appear to at least work.
wheels seem ok and tbh the whole thing is pretty light for an old fs so I'll probably have a fun time messing around in the park.

So gave it a good old clean up today and also fixed the chain/ started settings gears up.

Gave everything a good old slathering of 4 In 1 and it's all feeling rather decent.

Front mech cable is a bit worse for wear but 3.99 for a Clarks replacement from Amazon and all will be right.
