    Stolen - very distinctive Raleigh

Re: Stolen - very distinctive Raleigh (Devon) Apologies, I am in Devon. My mountain bike was also stolen (blue women specific Trek), but that is more replaceable. The Raleigh has been really helpful in getting me back cycling after a long time off, and I had managed over 2000 miles on it this...

    Stolen - very distinctive Raleigh

I am not sure whether it is appropriate to post this here, but I have had my much-loved retro Raleigh stolen. It has been adapted for me, as I have a back problem, so I am really upset about losing it. It has been changed to a triple on the front, 6 low rear gears, bright pink handlebar tape...

Hi - not very mechanical newbie

Thanks Coomber, people have been very welcoming and helpful so far :) . The questions will start once I have been riding the bikes for a while and start needing to do maintenance / change the setup. I am hoping that finding spares won't be too much of a nightmare.... I'm in Exeter, and am...

Hi - not very mechanical newbie

Ah, thanks guys - I was a bit concerned that it would be difficult to keep an older bike running, but it looks like there is plenty of info and advice out there :D .

    453 tubing

Spokesmann, I will upload a picture once its back from the bike shop - I got a bit overenthusiastic with the crank puller  Thanks Jonny 69 and Bats, for the lightness issue, I'd could probably make more of a difference losing a few pounds off me! But I may well be looking for a...

    453 tubing

Thanks Nick, I don't need anything special, so I'm not bothered about desirability, just comfort and riding enjoyment :) . Its a mixte frame, so I had a suspicion it wouldn't be terribly special. Its very pretty though

    453 tubing

Great, my bike is made of gas pipe! Thank you - this one is an Eagle too. Is there anything I need to watch out for, e.g. is it particularly brittle or anything like that?

    453 tubing

Can anyone tell me anything about 453 tubing please?

    Raleigh Criterium

Thanks Meejoir, I'll investigate that. I think fitting top end stuff to this would be a waste of time, particularly since I am never going to be a brilliant cyclist, so I just want stuff that will work OK. Devon hills can be challenging. Can't imagine how the previous owner managed with what...

    Raleigh Criterium

Re: Stem is high because I have a problem with my back (couple of vertebrae have been fused) and that's the most comfy position for me. It has taken me nearly ten years to get a bike sorted that (a) fits, and (b) doesn't hurt. Being short hasn't helped with frame choice either.

    Raleigh Criterium

Re: Its not for sale! Took me too many years to find it. Thanks for the help, I guess that would mean fitting 7 speed block, then fitting the levers? There seems to be a 7 speed version of what I just fitted.

Hi - not very mechanical newbie

Hi All, After much searching I have finally found 2 old steel road bikes that are small enough for me :D and I am adapting them to the Devon terrain. I am likely to be posting technical questions as I am a novice at doing up bikes.

    Raleigh Criterium

I wish I had found this forum BEFORE I started fiddling around with this  Raleigh Criterium, 1982 I think, which has been set up for the Devon roads by fitting a triple on the front and an IRD 6-speed on the back. Purists will probably be shocked  pink handlebar tape to make it...
