1993 Kona - renewing drivetrain, potential rebuild advice?

Hi all - just looking for some advice and creative/technical thought from the wise council of RetroBikeland. Although I've built from scratch I'm no expert on hardware, and my first (and almost completely still original) Kona Hahanna is needing some renewing. I would ideally like to replace like...

    Kona Joe Murray 'propulsion/equilibrium' tires

You'll probably know what they are if you have them! Widish, heavy tread, yellow 'joe murray' oval...my originals were on a '93 Hahanna (no surpirses there!)... I'd ideally like a set unused/lightly used for the restoration project .however I don't mind the odd spare if old used ones are wanted...

Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire god

Re: Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire I put drops on Beast and it was the best thing I did. I prefer the ergonomics of curled drops and the ability to chop and change hand position. But that is for mostly on-road/light dirt spwal: haha fun... I was told by the bike shops...

1998 Kona Hahanna restoration... first timer!

...you could be brave and ditch suspension forks and get a set of good ol' project 2's...of course, the shortest ones (from memory, 39cm axle to crown? something like that). If its road/light off road it'll ride like a beast. That's (partly) why my other one is called the Beast, as it fairly...

Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire god

Re: Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire Just picked up on latest replies, it doesn't prod me every time someone replies for some reason.. Yes as has already been said your forks will be 1 1/8; however the earlier frames are 1", for anyone else looking. Just as a follow...

Re: Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire Ha Ha! Enjoying the comments. Pretty much describes my life (eccentric and appealing...ha maybe! well I tend to do things differently at any rate!)...I sit chuckling having a G&T whilst people argue over which box to put me in...I'm...

Experimental Kona Hahanna 1998 project...birth of a fire god

I've created a monster and have no idea where it fits best, but figured most people into Kona Hahannas will look on the MTB section...! Since all my newbie questions I've finished my first custom build. I ride a '93 14" Hahanna daily that I've had from new (nicknamed 'the Beast'), basically on...

Shifter and cable routing, quick tech question

That's exactly the sort of article thats been confusing me all evening, lol. Yes the left shifter is obvious front, the right the rear derailleur, no confusion there. I'm not sure as to whether or not the cables should cross over in front of the stem to opposite sides when heading for the run...

Shifter and cable routing, quick tech question

Hi all - Just putting together my first scratch build and just trying to clarify conventions to get the setup and cable runs right; I don't have any 'original' setup to follow. I have 9 speed 6500 STIs and the cables to the rear (brake and dreailleurs) all run along the top tube side by...
