I may already have one! It's from 1972 and the one in that picture you showed me is the closest i've seen to it in terms of lugs, wrap over seat stays and colour scheme.
Here's my original post: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=274821
Spokesman thought it could be a Contra La Montre but wasn't sure. If...
Hi everyone, i've been searching the net trying to find out a bit more about this model but am finding it a bit difficult. Does anyone have more information on it. Where did it sit in the Carlton range? Was it mid or high end? Were many made? Any catalogues from the early 70s with the spec?
Same mystery bike again. The paint job give any other ideas. I looks as though these are fairly common so it's a bike of a mystery why they're so difficult to identify. The search goes on!
Any idea what my lugs are called?
I think this one is the same as mine, just stripped to the chrome. Going by the serial it's 1971 so a year older than mine. So whatever it was it was made in 71 and 72!
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions guys. The more I look at it the more I think it's probably a Cobra but I have seen that the Internationals made in 1971 had plain lugs. What's confusing me are the olympic rings hear the headset. Unfortunately the writing is really bad. It might say...
And the more I look at the decal near the headset the more i'm convinced it says clubman. Was this a model in itself? Any details or brochures for a late 70s one? Would it have come in all chrome?
I've just checked again and there's nothing on either side of the rear stay or on the top of the seat post. I saw on a website that there was a short period in the late 60s where there was just a 7 digit number on the bb.
"From 1968 to 1972 two numbering systems were used. The majority of...

Yes, it's all chrome, the whole frame and forks! And i'm amazed how much of the rust is coming off with with most the chrome in tact! The only frame number I can find is on the bottom bracket as in my first post. It says 3005432 and just below it says X2295.
Ok, think i've fixed the problem with the pictures, had prviacy settings set too high. Hopefully this will work. Let me know how many you can now see.

Thanks spokesman, i'll take a few more pictures tonight and add them to picassa (you did see there were 9 or 10 there in the album didn't you)? The lugs look pretty plain to me, certainly not those elaborate curly ones!
Hi everyone, been reading posts on hear for ages (your guys are great!) but this is the first of my own.
I was hoping for some help identifying a Carlton my neighbour gave me last weekend. I'm trying to find out a two things: 1) the model; 2) the relative quality of the bike and components...
