91 Kona Fire Mountain Slightly Modded (Pic Heavy)

OK, couple of progress pics. First up the Flexstem, always wanted one when I was a kid so hit ebay and won one. Made the error of getting a 1" but its shimmed and sitting tight so no big drama there. You can just about make out the new BB, thanks again to FlufflyChicken for the info :)...

91 Kona Fire Mountain Slightly Modded (Pic Heavy)

Thanks, yeah if I remember correctly I did remove a link or two, serviced rear hub and got it nice and smooth, have bathed the chain in various concoctions and its looking ok, not too worn and links seem free. The jockey wheels on the rear mech were a little tight, they are nice and clean and...

Ok, with thanks to FluffyChicken for the guidance the crank issue should be fixed, new bottom bracket has been installed, cranks loctited and all seems nice and secure.

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

OK, yeah, removing the nipple helps, its out ;) If I remember correctly it's a grease nipple FluffyChicken, whip it out and squirt some grease into the BB chamber through the tube I have just ejected.

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

Thank you, yeah that's one I've come across a lot but as above I am concerned the fit might be a problem with the sealed units, in pics the diameters look a lot higher than the space I have to fill, the two pics below show, what I've pulled out and in the second you can see the tube I am having...

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

OK, had the spanners out and dismantled it, axle reads 68=T=122.5, D-3NL. I assume the 122.5 is the length? but am now confused about the actual BB. Looking around on ebay the majority seem to be sealed units and I am not sure one will fit in my frame, I essentially need two end bearing cups...

Thank you very much :) replace brake with frame and search and I've got more options than I could of imagined, think a bit more caffeine is needed to kickstart the brain today

Get it built, you deserve it ;) I don't know if it is just me but there is something so cool looking about the old Kona's. When I took it out the other day I parked and locked it up at Tesco alongside various bikes of different specs, new and slightly older and despite her age she really did...

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

At the risk of sounding a complete fool, what exactly am I searching for? Searching brake cable stop, clamp on brake cable stop, v-brake adapter etc is only giving me one result on the bike pieces front, plenty of bits and bobs if I want to bring a car to a standstill though. I don't...

Yeah, I used to do that when I first got the problem and it didn't work, have been considering trying the Red stuff as I only ever used the blue in the past. Its only a real problem if the bike is being ridden for a long distance, have to hop off every now and then and tighten it up.

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

Thanks for the quick replies, I only found the chain problem by accident when I got a bit of a wobble and my feet went backwards, as I corrected and pedaled forward there was nothing and I remembered why I always thought the 18" frame was just a little too tall for me  Got the wheels...

Need a bit of help with bits and pieces please

Been going over my Fire Mountain identifying what needs attention and found a few issues which need to be addressed. I have posted a couple of issues in my original Fire Mountain thread but am gonna repeat them here as I really am clueless right now, so, lets go.... Got an issues with my chain...

Yeah, I love the look of these bikes. Love the black, of all the colours through the range in 91 the blue FM was the one I really wasn't keen on, the black looked kind of mean so out came the teen metaller in me and it was snapped up. Tiny bit battered now but to me it still looks pretty mean...

91 Kona Fire Mountain Slightly Modded (Pic Heavy)

After dusting down my 18" 91 Fire Mountain the other day and making sure everything that needs to be tight was tight, pumping up the tyre's and checking the gears and brakes (SAFETY FIRST peeps  ) I decided to take her out for a quick spin. Its probably been around 15-18 years since I...
