Seeing that nice dames frame above I realised I never posted these in this thread.

Many years ago a local-to-me seller had a barn full of old French bikes for sale. I went for a look. Most of it was just old rusty low end Peugeots and Motobecanes, but since I was there anyway, I dug out three that seemed interesting and took them with me.

The plan was to make one nice bike out of these for mrs non-fixie, but so far she's been lees than thrilled about the idea. 😟

So many lovely details and parts on that machine!

Good man! For me this just underlines a bit about wrenching on and being interested in French bikes.

If you wanted a single part from this to complete your mens bike, all I can say is "good luck, and when you do find it on Ebay, call your bank manager to up the purchase limit".

It's a horrible horrible to thing to say, and a reality, and the seller said it himself when you look at the advert.

The oddity with these bikes, one part financially is sooooo superseding the completeness of it all. Just the fact it has a proper real 1935 registration plaque I don't think I could ever muster enough courage to split this out and scrap the frame (and believe me, I'm a frugal, thick skinned, no remorse wrencher type). I've deliberately zoned in on ladies bikes for freewheels because of low miles.

There's roller cam brakes and obscure branded stem, bars, mudguards, brake lever all at the birth of aluminium on that. Chainstay mounted mech 😍

Personally, while some see it old knackered tat, I think a young teenager more open minded to less consumerism may see it very different but may be put off about the general state. I dunno, but pretty sure that would all work.

It's beautiful.

Hi all. Great thread. johnny69’s tip find is one for the ages.
Mine is much less special and not a randonneur or porteur.
I have a 1950’s velo de ville that I’ve been building up.

It has posts for centrepull brakes but I’m not sure exactly which ones to get as the Jeay M type and Bebolux don’t seem to have any adjustment for pads. I’ve measured middle of post to middle of rim and got 27mm rear and 31mm front.

Does anyone know which brakes I need?

Sorry if this has been covered previously. I haven’t made it through all 154 pages

Welcome to RB. A nice bicycle, what make is it? Brake centres seem to be a fairly dark art. It may just be a case of trying. Sorry I can't be of more help. @Woz any ideas?
