Champion BMX Cruiser Converted to MTB

Some sort of a chain guide was put on the frame at one time. Digging around, I think I have one of the previous owners photo's of it somewhere. I plan to fill those holes before paint. Andrewl, Yes I am slow though so give me some time to take the photo's.

A Champion didnt hit reserve on ebay recently

looks in pretty good condition.

Scant, I missed that one. At 6'3" I don't look at much with 24" wheels. This was the last 26" Champion I watched go through. Appears the seller got their asking price on this one:

You see the 26" double top tubes go through the bay once in a while, but in the past year or so I have been watching, I have seen only one double downtube listed.

I tend to watch the procruisers & champions as they share a lot of features, both of which I like.

As far as BMX stuff goes the only saved search I use is "BMX 26" (I guess I shouldn't share this stuff but it's all good, if it's on the bay, there is no hiding it). Well that and recently "Pro Neck", "Tuff Neck", and "Cruiser Bars".

I am with you there on the Pro Cruiser. That would certainly be on my top five list of desired bikes to restore and hang on the wall. My passion really is the early MTB's. I feel confident if I continue this passion of seeking out old bikes, A Pro Cruiser will eventually pass through my garage.

Cheers,
T

CBR 26 inch fork AND [Cook's] layback seatpost
...now things are getting serous ;)

You're going to need help lifting those hubs, though

Do you have the rest of the BMXA review?

yea, those hubs are interesting. For whatever reason, this is my third MTB now that will have drum hubs. Sticking with the spirit of the build, the hubs are the same (SA circa 1978ish) ones as in the photo. Forks match, post is a layback but not the same one(Figure I would be forgiven with this slight stray from the picture but the post is era correct, and hey, it is Cook Bros.).

I do have the rest of the BMXA review, just had issues posting it here on RB. I have been saving every photo, article and any other beta off the web on the double down tube Champions. Rest assured, if you have posted any pictures of yours in a public forum, I have pilferd the photo's for my file. Without counting, I think I have pics from about 8 builds give or take.

The print above from the Koski catalog that FirstFlight just scanned up was new and cool to me. Thanks FFB......

I will figure out how to post page two of the BMXA article (I think Jan. 1980 cool pics of Tinker as a kid working a BMX bike also) .......

Cheers,
T
