first thing, sorry there is not more retro bikes, the idea for the ride was retro to start with but only a few were interested from this site so i invited some friends who ride generally aswel, so hope it doesn't offend anyone, the way i see it was it's a bunch of guys having a laugh!
and if this isn't the best place to have this thread, mods feel free to move it into the appropriate section, thanks
anyhoo! we all met up at the lymington ferry car park about 10am, handshakes aplenty and the banter started, everyone was looking forward to a good ride and the weather was looking good, get on the ferry and hit munchies and tea! talking plenty of rubbish while we were at it! off the ferry after wightlink bloke takes our pic. onto the start of the coastal trail and pick up the trails to the viewpoint at hurst castle, carry on, little bit of road and up onto headon warren, singletrack bits of silliness followed by a slightly dodgy descent(that some walked, shame on you! pics of those will proove it later!) carry on to alum bay and to the needles viewpoint, some silliness happened and more talking of rubbish, wives, girlfriends, bikes, riding and porn! not in any particular order there by the way! carry on up to the top of the hill and heathy starts talking war stories after insulting the gnome lady(ask him! )carried on towards freshwater bay after a potentially dodgy descent and up on to the golf course, rode over the course and down a chalky wet descent, rigid and canti's, scary! mud plugged our way up the next climb, we were starting to feel the pace/miles, 2 more climbs and descents and we stop at the crown inn for munchies, soup and chip butties!! yum yum! realising how late we have run we decide to nail it back to the ferry by road, tired legs and lack of light looming! we get to the ferry just before darkness sets, cool ride everyone seems tired but happy, 29miles in the bag apparently! not bad at all i think!
some good friends made
quote of the day, "you can't climb on cheese" there were more but i can't remember them!
pics to follow, i'll post a few good ones on here and do a link for the whole lot to facebook. but that won't be for a while yet, roast dinner is waiting!!
