Croce D'uane cranks 175mm

Taul Paul

Devout Dirtbag
Has anyone got the 175mm version for sale or swap. With rings or without I don't mind as long they are very tidy. If you do have a 39 ring that would be nice also. Mine are 172.5mm and very nice.

Thanks

Re:

I have some which from memory are 175. Not sure on the rings, and they're not quite as good a condition as the ones in that photo. They're in a sale thread somewhere. Will dig it out and get back to you this afternoon

found the thread, just bumped it: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=342562

let me know if interested, If you only want the arms I'll check the weight without them for postage and work out a price

will sort more pics sometime soon...

The ones in Taul Paul's first pic do look more like slightly later chorus or athena. The spider arms curve inwards slightly on those. Croce d'Aune are exactly the same as C Record, but with the spider "rotated" slightly compared to C Record, so having 5 arms. The spider arms on CdA and C Record curve out slightly.

The crank in the first pic in the thread Way2many links to is later chorus, it is not CdA.

Here is the complete bike if it helps decide. The number 42 on the crank arm rear might help. I bought the groupset as Athena so that, Cda, Chorus would probably all work. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=345377

Re:

These are surplus to me. 175MM, threads and tapers are all good but the drive crank does have some marks. Emblems still sharp and comes with crank caps and bolts/washers.

Rings are, original 42, shiny French made 52 both with loads of life left. £60 posted?

Way2many, those are either Chorus cranks from 1987-1991, or Athena from 1992-1994. These were all basically the same shape, although there may be some subtle differences between them. They are NOT CdA.

CdA was only available in years 1988-1991, and had the same crank shape throughout - the same as C Record, but with the spider rotated slightly and 5 visible chainring bolts, not 4 and a hidden one like Record. The CdA crank was reused as Chorus in years 1992-1994.

The crank in Taul Paul's pic is almost certainly Athena from 1988-1991. If I remember correctly, the date code of 42 indicates manufacture in the second quarter of 1989 which would confirm that. The shape is very similar to CdA but not the same.

In the end they're all very nice chainsets, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! They would all fit the build just as well, I think it would come down to personal preference, or how determined you are on having a complete group.

Well said Mr mecanica. If you flit back and forth you can see the differences. The centre area is more of a knuckle up standing shape that mine and a little more sculptured to the arms either side of the cranks arm.
May as well have them eh.
This will finish the resto off once I get a 39 ring for them.
