Only the flats are tapered, the shaft isn't? Will this work?

Sure why not? Sold a plenty in different length for the last few weeks/months. All good. You need the collars as well like the WI-BB or the early Fat Chance-BB's... I could load up a pic with this shaft in a CQP F-2000 if necessary.
