Marin DH FRS (B17)

I will try and get some better pics this weekend, but the frame is in pretty good nick. Its not much of a rebuild as its all working well. Paint is in good nick.

Not sure on the swingarm, I know these frames have some issues with them but I did thoroughly go over it and cant see any cracks so happy with it. My riding is pretty lame so not worried that the bike wont be enough for me!

Its my first venture into full suspension so I'm a happy chap to get a bike I always coveted :D

All late 90's marin's are awesome. Will check yours out now... EDIT: chriscl lets see some pics of yours!

If I remember correctly, that one you have has the beefier Swingarm as well, (was an update from earlier ones).

I'm not 100% but i'm pretty sure this is the same as mine, i've got the very first incarnation in B17 originaly white mainframe and red swingarm, I THINK the only thing they changed about the swing arm on these were the later one's had IS disc mount :? it was the first mount visions/rift zone that had to have swing arms changed, they were alot skinnier kinda trellis style

That's correct with the red and white. Those were 1998's and had RST Hi5's. 1999's had Manitou X-Verts and otherwise similar kit. This one was the same frame but with a way better spec: Manitou X-Vert Ti (carbon legs), Hayes Mag brakes, XTR with MRP guide and other goodies. If it helps, I could look up the original catalogs from back then. They must be here somewhere...

I would love to see a Marin catalogue with this in or the B17 mate.

Please please please

I have to look a bit better fr those catalogs. It puzzles me right now that I don't know where I put them, but I will find them tomorrow for sure. Taking pictures of them now, at night, wouldn't make any sense anyway...

Until then, I found you a few links:

Thanks M

Some great links in there. The DH FRS seem a bit rare. I have an old magazine here somewhere which has the advert for it. I know this is a lot different to stock.

Big_eck is hopefully going to be able to sort an adaptor out so disc brakes will be away shortly, then its onwards and upwards.

have a fly stem that I might use but its a bit tatty.

1999 B-17 re build

Nice Bike, here is my 1999 Marin B-17

I liked mine so much that i got the rear swing arm re sprayed and the graphics re done at argos cycles and completely re built the bike around a more modern spec to take to the alps.

Your looks very nice.

I sold mine on pretty quickly. I did really like it but to do it justice it needed better than the shockworks rear suspension, and also some 120mm forks really. And then disc brakes and wheels, and when I added that all up I thought I'd have spent too much.

Was very nice though and would like another one day.

I took my 1998 B-17 for its first nightride the other night and realised it's not right for what I ride and the way. Another country move later this year means I might be forced to sell it.

BUT Rumble - I totally hear what you're saying! In '98 when I got my first job, this was totally the bike I wanted. I saved myself 500 quid in the end and went for a Scott FX, but still secretly wanted the B-17!

Then in 2004, I got one! Junior Ts, Hope discs (including this MEAN looking Marin-branded machined alloy rear disc bracket), I agree with FST4RD, great DH, tough ride elsewhere!

I'll try and get pics when I next give her a clean n service.

@aahsilly I've recently got a frame and am building up a full bike - how did you mount the disc on the frame - looks like an IS mount, how did you get that working with the crazy mounts on the swingarm?
