Retro Newbie
Hi there,

Hope this is OK with this being my first but, but I've been advised by our friends over on Singletrack to try and see if there's any interest here. I have a mid-80s Barry Hoban road bike for sale. I bought it to commute to university but I don't live a cycle-able distance any more so it doesn't get used.

Bought this off eBay (where it has been subsequently re-listed) off the other Mr Hoban, Barry's brother, who had it from new.

Bit of spec:

Reynolds 531 frame, 57cm top tube, GB bars, French Mistral 700c rims, Simplex front changer and 5 speed dérailleur, Weinmann side pull brakes.

Looking for £130 to just make my money back. It's in great nick and hopefully the pictures show this.

Hi there,

It's just an adjustable cup and cone type. Don't quote me on this though I had to go ask someone myself :)

THe old style also had cup and cones. WHat I'm talking about is if the spindle is square taper or something else, a more complicated version like nowadays is with the octalink.

Quite important information for those who want to take full use of the wide range rear mech, so it's easier to replace the crankset with for example a Stronglight 99 as a classic style compact crankset.

Yeah no worries, if anyone has any other questions feel free and I'll do my best to find out - I'm just more familiar with modern mountain bikes which is like the opposite of this :)
