hi, just returned from the car boot with this umm..... example. i plan to singlespeed it and (hopefully) commute on it.
i know its a raleigh (head badge) it has wienmann centrepulls and a gb stem. its the lugwork that makes me think its better than a bso especially the wrapover seat stay.
any ideas?

Don't really know dates, but seat stays, rear brake bridge, and cp brakes scream Carlton to me. Spokesman will know better.....

Check brakes and chainwheel for date stamping

Edit:- according to this site, the Carlton name disappeared in 1972
http://www.carltoncycles.me.uk/timeline.htm

though Carlton cycles still see to have been available in 1973

Yours looks very like the Raleigh catalouge pic in your link, but is undoubtably of Carlton origin at Raleigh.

check the back of the brakes as they will have a ring date on as will the hubs and they should all be very close to each other in years .

Crespera lug (used by Carlton) were used from c67-76.

Needs a lot of restoring. Could be interesting :D

Odd head badge... maybe a very abused Corsa, with other bits added on...

It's one of the Raleigh/Carlton/Sun/BSA (and possibly others within the Raleigh empire!) clones built in vast quantities in the 60's and 70's.

ok thanks, well its stripped going to scotchbrite it ready for the powdercoat and figure out what size bb axle im going to need.
