I had some as orig equip on my (more modern - 2005) MTB, but sold / upgraded some of it to XT, then moved to SLX recently.

Known as reliable kit - is that why it has held its value perhaps? Popular for touring type bikes?

I think the thing here is the fact your looking on ebay.

And also that if it was any cheaper it wouldnt be far off giving it away?

Yes, probably agressive pricing.

But normally outdated groups go cheaper (until they become 'retro')... :roll:

I've seen M530 on all sorts. MTBs, commuters and road / touring type bikes with mud gaurds and drop bars. Must be a reason for this? Reliability?

Or lack of flashness, but still with good performance?

Your assuming that people know the difference between M530 and M590. Most won't!!!
 
I wonder if the modern Deore will be looked back on the same way I look back on the 90s version. It is solid dependable stuff to be sure.
