Anyone here drive in or around London?

So I pay 280 a month for the tube from Zone 3 to Zone 8.

I had the idea to get a fairly economical car (306 TD, 50 MPG usually). Insurance should be less than 50 a month.

Now on Google Maps it says it takes 39 mins via the M1 and 47 mins via the A40. 23.1 miles and 30.1 miles respectively.

Is this a realistic journey time if leaving around 7.45 in the moring and leaving around 5.45?

I used to be a courier (van, not pushbike), and I think it isn't.
Why don't you hire a car for a week and see what you think? I used these and they were OK.

I do Tring / Chesham to Euston ~3 days a week and you'll be fine as you're against the traffic flow.

For me to get from Brent Cross to Berkhamstead it's 30mins @75mph.

The only crap section you'll have is the M25 NW corner, but you can cut off most of this by popping through watford.

If there's no traffic i can do tring-euston in 45mins. It took me 1hr10 mins to get from barbican to tring tonight at 6.30.

It is, apart from the m25 section. However, you can pop through the lanes to saratt area into the back of chalfont.
