1991 (?) Rocky Mountain Baby Altitude Build Thread

An interesting bike came up on my local Cl last night and was able to be first in line for it. I couldn't tell from the Cl photo what it was as I guessed that the perspective in the image was off...but I was wrong. Perspective was fine as it's a 14" frame with 20" bmx wheels! As far as I can tell, this is a baby Altitude. I got it from the original owner who lives in Richmond BC, not far from the original Rocky Mountain Everest Manufacturing plant. I can't wait to see my daughter riding it in a few years :) I'm doing a little digging as I'm keen on the history of this thing! If you know of anything, I'd greatly appreciate any info!

Thanks gentlemen! Yes I'm pretty stoked over it. Here is leaning against a 20.5 Brodie

Very cool! It's about your size isn't it, Adrian? (Runs for cover!)

Re:

And here I was thinking I was a cool Dad when I bought my daughter Specialized HotRock....

Never knew the child size Rocky's existed, very cool, nice find!

Re:

WTF???

that looks like a clown bike, but cool none the less!

guessing it's a custom one off for someone that had ties at RM back in the day!

need to take a photo of it against a proper size 91/92 altitude!

That's a nice bike :)
Made from bit's and bobs.
No real altitude connection other than colour, frame decals of the older bikes, fork decals of the rockshox team 93 ish forks.

I like hte way the rear end just couldn't be bothered to shorten it for the 20" wheels. Wonder what size it's set to ?

Never know it could be a trials bike they setup and then moved to a nice son/daughters bike or just a custom built job.

Love it :)

I've had a bit of an update. I posted it on the Vintage Canadian Mountain Bike facebook group and one of the long time employees of Rocky spotted my posting. She said it was made as a surprise for the accountant there after he complained that there were no high quality kids bikes on the market. So a frame builder name Gary and herself (Gweny) came up with the idea: Gary built it and Gweny assembled it. The accountants sons name is Jason and hence the decal. She said it was built in 1994
