In the early 1990's a factory clearcoat option was offered. The ARC's looked cool, and so did the FRO, but inevitably over time on the steel frames, rust worms start to appear under the clearcoat.
She's very much a rider, although for obvious reasons, she's not first choice for a salty wet winter ride, if for nothing else that the Bullseye BB will self destruct pretty quickly.

Enjoy the patina!

One small detail that irks me. I have used a no-noodle ATAC for the front end, as no noodle is needed for the period Marinovative brakes. Brake stop is therefore surplus on the rear, but I'm not brave/silly enough to cut it off.
I like that you can actually see the brass on the braze-ons.

Faded brakes:

Top tube worms:

Great psychedelic patterns!

New rear tyre is still a little dusty. The ONLY correct rubber to use for this machine.

Bullsee bits plus improvised chainstay protection. She could do without sustaining any more damage!

Old redlabel perforated flite. Very beat up, on a first gen Pro-post. Very much a survivor.

That is fantastic, I didn't realise the clearcoat was an option on steel Yeti's. Handy to be able to get an advance warning before the rust takes hold, Do you plan to have it blasted and re coated in the future or will you just let it go?

Me neither, but OMG that is clearly  amazing..!

And perfectly built :) . Well done, I'm sure you'll do good in BoTM.

Noo, she'll be staying as she is. I have riders, hacks, bikes I'm precious about, and queens. This one is for using as originally intended.
As the thread I guess is about the bike in general, a little note on how she rides, or more, how she feels. I'm fortunate enough to have a kind of a version of this frame in steel, Al and Ti. Same geometry pretty much, and not crazy different builds. The steel definitely feels "softest". Definitely the most comfy for your posterior. However the accutrax makes your forearms feel like they're going to shatter; but as it says on the tin- they do track accurately.

I understand, but I wasn't thinking in terms of aesthetics or being precious about the bike, but simply prolonging its existence that's all! It's a superb machine and I'm glad it's getting used as intended, know what you mean re the Accu-Trax though, they are the very definition of rigid!
